Physiotherapy, often referred to as physical therapy, is a healthcare discipline focused on diagnosing and treating physical impairments and disabilities. It aims to restore movement and function through various techniques, including exercise, manual therapy, and education. Physiotherapists work with patients to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and enhance overall physical well-being, helping individuals recover from injuries or manage chronic conditions.
You typically do not need a doctor’s referral for private physiotherapy. However, if you are under WCB (Worker’s Compensation Board) or your extended healthcare provider requires one, it’s best to check with them before your initial visit.
Please bring your insurance information and any relevant documents, such as extended health plan benefit cards. If available, include a doctor’s referral, imaging reports (X-ray, CT scan, MRI), and post-operative protocols from recent surgeries.
For injuries affecting the lower body (from the low back to feet), wearing shorts is recommended. If your injury is in the upper body and you’re female, a sports bra or tank top will help us assess the area properly. Additionally, bring any custom orthotics or footwear that may be contributing to your symptoms.
Session length varies based on your injury and the treatment required, but you can expect to spend approximately 30 minutes to an hour in the clinic.
The number of treatments varies for each individual, depending on the condition’s severity and your activity goals. After your initial assessment, your physiotherapist will recommend a suitable treatment plan.
Most health plans provide coverage for certain physiotherapy and massage therapy treatments. It’s best to verify specific details with your provider.
We offer direct billing to several insurance companies, including Blue Cross, Medavie, ASEBP/ARTA, Green Shield, Great West Life, and more. You will need to cover the patient co-pay amount at the time of treatment.
As a new clinic, we will be offering government coverage for treatments soon. Stay tuned for updates on this service.
If you have injuries from a motor vehicle accident, it’s essential to file a claim with your car insurance company. While it’s advisable to see a doctor for documentation of your injury, a referral is not necessary to start physiotherapy. The sooner you begin treatment after the accident, the quicker your recovery can be.
